Valtrex (valacyclovir) 

Indications 

Valtrex is indicated for: 

  • Adult Patients 
  • Cold Sores (Herpes Labialis) 
  • Genital Herpes 
  • Treatment in immunocompetent patients (initial or recurrent episode) 
  • Suppression in immunocompetent or HIV-infected patients 
  • Reduction of transmission 
  • Herpes Zoster (Shingles)

  • Cold Sores (Herpes Labialis) 
  • Chickenpox 

Dosage and Administration

  • Take Valtrex exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Stay well-hydrated while taking Valtrex to help prevent kidney issues.   
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water. 
  • Take it at the same time each day for consistent results. 
  • Do not take more or less than the prescribed dose. 
  • Do not skip doses even if you start feeling better. 
  • Do not stop taking Valtrex without consulting your doctor. 
  • Do not crush or chew the tablets. 

Mechanism of Action 

Valtrex works by converting into acyclovir in the body, which inhibits viral DNA synthesis. This action prevents the virus from multiplying, thereby reducing the severity and length of outbreaks.

Contraindications
