NP Thyroid (thyroid)
Indications
- Hypothyroidism: NP Thyroid is used to treat hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), a condition where your thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone.
- Goiter: It helps to treat or prevent goiter (an enlarged thyroid gland) caused by hormone imbalances, radiation treatment, surgery, or cancer.
- Thyroiditis: NP Thyroid can be used to manage thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid gland).
- Thyroid Cancer: It is sometimes used in the management of thyroid cancer.
Dosage and Administration
- Take NP Thyroid exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
- Take the medication at the same time each day, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach, 30 minutes to an hour before breakfast. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.
- Regularly monitor your thyroid hormone levels through blood tests as advised by your doctor.
- Do not take more than the recommended dose.
- Avoid taking NP Thyroid with calcium or iron supplements; wait at least 4 hours after taking these supplements.
- Do not switch brands without consulting your doctor, as different brands may not work the same way.
- Avoid consuming foods that can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption, such as soy products, walnuts, and dietary fiber, around the time you take NP Thyroid.
Mechanism of Action
NP Thyroid is derived from pig thyroid glands and contains both levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3). These hormones supplement the deficient thyroid hormones in your body, helping to restore normal metabolism, energy levels, and overall health.
Contraindications
- Do not use NP Thyroid if you are allergic to thyroid hormone or any other components of the tablet.
- Avoid use if you have untreated adrenal insufficiency or thyrotoxicosis (an overactive thyroid).
- Not recommended for individuals with a history of uncorrected adrenal gland problems.
- Avoid use if you have had a recent heart attack or have acute myocardial infarction.
