Lamisil Cream (terbinafine)
Indications
Lamisil Cream is prescribed for:
- Tinea Infections: Treatment of fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, including ringworm (tinea corporis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and athlete’s foot (tinea pedis).
- Other Fungal Infections: Treatment of certain types of yeast infections of the skin, such as candidiasis.
Dosage and Administration
- Wash and thoroughly dry the affected skin before applying Lamisil Cream.
- Use enough cream to cover the affected area and surrounding skin lightly.
- Massage the cream into the skin until it is absorbed.
- Apply the cream to the affected area twice daily, in the morning and evening.
- Use Lamisil Cream for the full duration prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically 1 to 4 weeks depending on the type and severity of the infection.
- Do not apply it to open wounds or broken skin.
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes.
- Do not cover the treated area with occlusive dressings unless directed by your doctor.
Mechanism of Action
Lamisil Cream has terbinafine, which stops a key process in fungal cells. It blocks an enzyme called squalene epoxidase, which the fungus needs to make a strong outer layer. Without this layer, the fungus can’t survive, so it dies off.
