Femara (letrozole)
Indications
Femara tablets are prescribed for the following conditions:
- Breast Cancer Treatment: Used after surgery in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer.
- Breast Cancer Prevention: Reduces the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women at increased risk of developing the disease.
- Fertility Treatment: Sometimes used off-label to induce ovulation in women with infertility issues.
Dosage and Administration
- Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly. Femara is usually taken once daily, with or without food.
- Take Femara at the same time each day to maintain an even level of medication in your body.
- Complete the prescribed course of treatment, even if you feel well, unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
- Do not skip doses. Missing doses can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
- Do not take more than the prescribed amount of Femara.
Mechanism of Action
Femara is an aromatase inhibitor. It works by blocking the enzyme aromatase, which converts androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. By reducing estrogen levels in postmenopausal women, Femara helps prevent the growth of hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells.

Femara should not be used if:
- You are allergic to Letrozole.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have pre-menopausal hormone levels
