Indications: Dermasone Solution (clobetasol propionate) is indicated for short-term treatment of scalp conditions that respond to corticosteroids. It helps with inflammation and itching in moderate to severe cases. A Dermasone treatment should not last more than two weeks. The dose should not exceed 50 mL per week to prevent HPA axis suppression.

Dermasone Solution is not recommended for children under 12 years old. This medication is manufactured by Taro Pharmaceutical.

Ingredients: Dermasone Solution contains clobetasol propionate as the active ingredient. Inactive ingredients include carbomer 974P, isopropyl alcohol (40% w/w), purified water, and sodium hydroxide.

Directions: Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.

  • Apply Dermasone Solution to the affected scalp areas twice daily, once in the morning and once at night.
  • This medication is potent, so treatment should not exceed two consecutive weeks. Do not use more than 50 mL per week.
  • Do not use Dermasone Solution with occlusive dressings.
  • For elderly patients, no dosage adjustment is needed, as studies show its safety is similar to that in younger patients.

Common Side Effects: Dermasone Solution may cause burning, dryness, irritation, itching, or redness of the skin. You may also notice increased redness, scaling of skin sores, or a mild skin rash. These effects are usually temporary.

Severe Side Effects: Dermasone Solution may cause blood-containing blisters, severe burning or itching, or a lack of healing of the skin condition. Some people may experience numbness in the fingers, painful or itchy pus-filled blisters in hair follicles, or raised, dark-red, wart-like spots, especially on the face. Skin infections or thinning of the skin with easy bruising may also occur. This list of signs is not complete. In case you experience other signs, call your doctor immediately.

Before you take Dermasone Solution, tell your healthcare provider if you have:

  • A history of adrenal gland problems or Cushing’s syndrome
  • Diabetes or high blood sugar
  • Skin infections or open wounds in the area to be treated
