- Complete the entire course of Cleocin, even if you start feeling better.
- Take Cleocin capsules with a full glass of water to prevent esophageal irritation.
- Take Cleocin with or without food but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset.
- Do not skip doses or stop taking Cleocin without consulting your healthcare provider, as this may lead to the development of resistant bacteria.
- Do not take Cleocin with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours before or after the dose.
- Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Cleocin, as it can increase the risk of stomach upset or other side effects.
- Do not take other medications, especially antibiotics, without consulting your healthcare provider.
Mechanism of Action
Cleocin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, preventing the formation of essential proteins required for bacterial growth and reproduction, effectively stopping the spread of infection.
