Arimidex (anastrozole)
Indications
- Specifically indicated for hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer, helping reduce the risk of recurrence.
- For postmenopausal women whose cancer has spread, Arimidex is used as an initial treatment.
- Employed in advanced breast cancer that has progressed following tamoxifen therapy.
Dosage and Administration
- Take one tablet daily, preferably at the same time each day.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for the next one.
- Stick to the dosing schedule provided by your healthcare provider.
- Do not chew, crush, or split the tablet.
- Do not double up the next dose if a dose is missed.
- Do not take Arimidex with estrogen-containing therapies as they can interfere with its action.
Mechanism of Action
Arimidex (anastrozole) works by inhibiting the enzyme aromatase, which is involved in estrogen production. By lowering estrogen levels in the body, Arimidex helps slow the growth of estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells.
