Anoro Ellipta (Umeclidinium and Vilanterol)

Indications

Anoro Ellipta is prescribed for the long-term, once-daily maintenance treatment of COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It helps improve breathing and reduces the frequency of COPD flare-ups.

Dosage and Administration

  • Use Anoro Ellipta once daily at the same time each day.
  • Inhale deeply and steadily to ensure the medication reaches your lungs.
  • Follow the instructions provided with the inhaler to ensure correct usage.
  • Rinse your mouth with water without swallowing after each use to reduce the risk of oral infections.
  • Do not use Anoro Ellipta to treat acute bronchospasm or sudden breathing problems.
  • Avoid getting the inhaler wet; do not wash or submerge it in water.
  • Do not take more than one inhalation per day.

Mechanism of Action

Anoro Ellipta combines umeclidinium, a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA), and vilanterol, a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA). Umeclidinium works by relaxing the muscles around the airways, while vilanterol helps to open the airways by stimulating beta2 receptors in the lungs. Together, they improve airflow and reduce symptoms of COPD.

Contraindications

  • Severe Allergy to Milk Proteins: Do not use if you are allergic to milk proteins, as the inhaler contains lactose.
  • Known Allergy to Umeclidinium, Vilanterol, or any other ingredients: Avoid use if you have had allergic reactions to these components.
  • Acute Asthma or COPD Episodes: Not suitable for treating sudden breathing problems.
