Voltaren Gel (diclofenac diethylamine)
Indications
Voltaren Gel is indicated for the relief of the pain of osteoarthritis in joints responsive to topical treatment, such as the knees and hands.
Dosage and Administration
- Use the provided dosing card to measure the proper dose of Voltaren Gel.
- Apply Voltaren Gel to clean, dry skin over the affected area.
- Do not apply Voltaren Gel to open skin wounds, infections, inflammations, or areas with exfoliative dermatitis.
- Avoid using other topical products (sunscreens, cosmetics, lotions, moisturizers, insect repellents) in the same area as Voltaren Gel.
- Avoid exposure of treated areas to natural or artificial sunlight.
Mechanism of Action
Voltaren Gel works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which reduces the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are compounds in the body that cause inflammation, pain, and fever. By reducing their levels, Voltaren Gel helps alleviate pain and inflammation in the affected joints.
