Cambia (diclofenac potassium)
Indications
Cambia is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for migraine attacks in adults 18 years of age or older.
Dosage and Administration
- Use Cambia exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
- Dissolve the contents of one single-dose packet in 1 to 2 ounces (30 to 60 mL) of water.
- Stir well and drink immediately after mixing.
- Take Cambia on an empty stomach for faster relief.
- Do not take more than one packet of Cambia in a 24-hour period.
- Do not use Cambia for the prevention of migraine attacks.
- Do not mix Cambia with any liquid other than water.
- Do not share your medication with others, even if they have similar symptoms.
Mechanism of Action
Cambia works by inhibiting the enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) involved in the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals in the body that contribute to inflammation, pain, and fever. By blocking their production, Cambia helps to reduce the inflammation and pain associated with migraines.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Diclofenac, any NSAIDs, or any components of the drug product.
- History of asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
- Use in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Precautions
- Hepatotoxicity: Inform patients of the warning signs and symptoms of liver damage. Discontinue Cambia if liver tests are abnormal or if symptoms of liver disease develop.

- Heart Failure and Edema: Avoid using it if you have severe heart failure issues unless the benefits outweigh the risks of worsening heart failure.
- Renal Toxicity: Monitor kidney function if you have renal or hepatic impairment, heart failure, dehydration, or hypovolemia. Avoid use in patients with advanced renal disease unless benefits outweigh the risks.
- Anaphylactic Reactions: Seek emergency help if an anaphylactic reaction occurs.
- Serious Skin Reactions: Discontinue at the first appearance of a skin rash or other signs of hypersensitivity.
- Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS): Discontinue and evaluate clinically.
