Natazia (estradiol valerate and dienogest)
Indications
- Natazia tablets are indicated for use as an oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy.
- Used for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) in women who choose to use an oral contraceptive as their method of contraception.
- Helps in regulating menstrual cycles, reducing menstrual pain, and decreasing the risk of ovarian cysts.
Dosage and Administration
- Take Natazia exactly as prescribed by your doctor, typically one tablet daily at the same time each day.
- Follow the sequence of pills in the blister pack carefully, starting with the first pill and proceeding as indicated.
- Use an additional form of contraception, such as condoms, during the first seven days of the first pack if starting Natazia for the first time.
- Take a missed dose as soon as you remember. If you miss multiple doses, follow the instructions provided in the patient information leaflet or contact your doctor.
- Do not skip doses or take more than the prescribed dose, as it can reduce the effectiveness of the medication.
- Do not share your medication with others, even if they have similar symptoms.
Mechanism of Action
Natazia contains estradiol valerate, an Estrogen, and Dienogest, a Progestin. It works by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary), thickening the vaginal fluid to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg, and changing the lining of the uterus to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg.
Contraindications
- Do not use Natazia if you have a history of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack.
- Avoid using Natazia if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain types of cancers, liver disease, or unexplained vaginal bleeding.
- Do not use if you have a history of jaundice caused by pregnancy or previous use of hormonal contraceptives.
