Colestid (colestipol)

- Colestid tablets are indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) in patients who do not adequately respond to diet and exercise alone.
- It is used to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

- Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets.
- Avoid taking other medications simultaneously with Colestid; take them at least 1 hour before or 4 hours after taking Colestid to prevent interactions.
- Do not stop taking Colestid abruptly without consulting your doctor, as it may affect your cholesterol levels.
Mechanism of Action
Colestid contains Colestipol, a bile acid sequestrant. It works by binding bile acids in the intestine, preventing their reabsorption. This process lowers cholesterol levels in the blood by increasing the conversion of cholesterol to bile acids in the liver.
