Intuniv ER (guanfacine) is indicated for the treatment of ADHD symptoms. It is indicated as a non-stimulant medication. The Intuniv ER medication above is manufactured by Shire Pharmaceutical.

Ingredients: Intuniv ER contains the active ingredient guanfacine hydrochloride. The inactive ingredients include hypromellose, methacrylic acid copolymer, lactose, povidone, crospovidone, microcrystalline cellulose, fumaric acid, and glycerol behenate.

Directions: Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.

  • Your doctor may change your dose, so do not adjust it without medical advice. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor.
  • Take this medicine once a day, in the morning or evening, either alone or with an ADHD stimulant if prescribed. Your doctor will tell you when to take each medication.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water, milk, or another liquid. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Tell your doctor if you cannot swallow it whole. Avoid taking it with a high-fat meal.
  • Your doctor will check your blood pressure and heart rate while you are on this medication. If you take too much, seek emergency help or call Poison Control immediately.
  • Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. It can slow your thinking and motor skills.
  • Avoid alcohol and other medicines that cause drowsiness, as they can make these effects worse.

Common Side Effects: Sleepiness, nausea, tiredness, trouble sleeping, low blood pressure, stomach pain, dizziness.

Serious Side Effects: Low blood pressure, low heart rate, fainting, sleepiness. Seek medical help immediately if you experience any of these symptoms. This list of signs is not complete. In case you experience other signs, contact your doctor immediately.

 Before taking Intuniv ER, tell your healthcare provider if you have: 

  • Heart problems or a low heart rate 
  • A history of fainting 
  • Low blood pressure

Keep a record of your medicines and show it to your doctor when starting a new one.

Store Intuniv ER at 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). Keep it out of the reach of children.
